CBSE Class 10 Latest Update: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made a change in the conduct of the Class 10th examination. Starting from 2026, the 10th class board examination will be held twice a year.

This major change, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to ease exam pressure and provide students with more flexibility and better performance opportunities.

As per this schedule, students are required to appear for the first board exam. Then, candidates who want to improve their scores or score low in three subjects can appear on the second exam.

According to Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, the first phase will be held in February, and the second in May. CBSE 10th result of the first session will be released in May, and the second session in June.

CBSE 2026: Why Two Board Exams for Class 10?

The official notice titled “Draft scheme for two examinations for class 10th from 2026” states that

According to the PARA 4.37 OF NEP-2020, “To further eliminate the ‘high stakes’ aspect of Board Exams, all students will be allowed to take Board Exams on up to two occasions during any given school year, one main examination and one for improvement, if desired.”

Under PARA 4.38 OF NEP-2020: Action taken by the CBSE on the recommendation of NEP 2020:

  • A draft scheme for the conduct of 2 Board examinations for Class X has been developed.
  • It is proposed that the scheme be implemented from the 2026 examinations of Class X.

The board has approved and is going to implement the two-exam format to reduce the fear of a single high-stakes exam. To motivate and allow board students to learn from their first attempt and try again in the second attempt within the same year, and create a student-friendly assessment system.
