What is JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility?
JEE Advanced 2026 official eligibility criteria are released under the examination>eligibility section. IIT Roorkee has released 05 criteria and also has stated that “All the candidates must simultaneously fulfil every one of the five criteria to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2026.
The JEE Advanced 2026 five conditions include: First, candidates must qualify through JEE Main 2026. Second, meeting the age limit. Third, the number of attempts. Fourth, appearance in class 12th or equivalent examination and and fifth, earlier admissions at IITs. All five criteria must be satisfied simultaneously to be eligible to fill the JEE Advanced 2026 form.

The authority has clarified that to satisfy Criterion A1 for JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 performers in the B.E./B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2026 across all categories.
For Criterion A2 on age limit, the authority has stated that candidates must be born on or after 1 October 2001 to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026. SC, ST, and PwD applicants get a five-year relaxation, which means they qualify if they were born on or after 1 October 1996.
Under Criterion A3, the authority has confirmed that each candidate can appear for JEE Advanced only twice, and those two attempts must fall in two consecutive years.
For Criterion A4, candidates must have appeared in Class XII for the first time in 2025 or 2026 with PCM. Those who first appeared in 2024 or earlier are not eligible. The appearance year depends on when the board declared results. Only one exception exists: if a board released its 2023–24 results on or after 18 June 2024, then its 2024 Class XII students are eligible, provided they meet all other criteria.
For Criterion A5, candidates who were ever admitted to an IIT in any program listed under JoSAA 2025 are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2026, even if they later left or their admission was cancelled. Students admitted to an IIT preparatory course for the first time in 2025 can appear. Those allotted an IIT seat in JoSAA 2025 but who didn’t report, withdrew early, or had their seat cancelled before the final IIT round remain eligible, as long as they also meet Criteria A1 to A4.
The IIT Roorkee will hold the JEE Advanced 2026 examination on 17th May 2026. The mode of examination will be an online computer-based test.
