CAT is one of the challenging exam for IIM Aspirant. It is considered one of the difficult exam to crack by the students. But if you make a correct strategy & time schedule, you will definitely be able to succeed to crack this exam.

Understand the Syllabus & Exam Pattern

Before starting preparation, students have to know the CAT exam pattern & syllabus of CAT exam. CAT examination comprises of various sections, students have to manage their time as per the difficulty of each section. To start preparations, students are required to gather all the information about the official CAT syllabus.

Books & Study Material

Without CAT 2025 books & study materials, students will get puzzled with the wide CAT 2025 syllabus. For better preparations, good books & study materials matters a lot. Students can also take help from the previous year question papers, this will make them familiarise with the exam pattern, type of questions and marking system.

Stay fit and Stress Free

A healthy mind and body are very important for better concentration in exam preparations. Take healthy diet and include fresh vegetables and more fruits in your diet. Avoid junk food any other alcoholic consumption. Do yoga and meditation, it will help you to concentrate better in your exam preparations.

Revision

Candidates will not get enough time for revision because of the lengthy syllabus. Due to lack of time, candidates will forget to revise the important topics. So, it is recommended to start early for preparation. Before the 3 to 4 days of the time of examination, candidates must try to revise the complete syllabus and important topics. Students are advised to keep at least last one week only for revision of topics you had already prepared for.

CAT Exam Pattern & Syllabus 2025

Understanding CAT 2025 Exam Pattern and syllabus is foremost need while starting your CAT preparation. Students must know about the pattern/ syllabus and latest changes made in it.

According to CAT exam pattern:

  • Paper is divided into 3 sections – VARC, DILR, QA.
  • 68 multiple choice questions will be there in the paper.
  • Exam will be held in CBT mode.
  • 40 minutes sectional time limit will be provided. Total 120 minutes will be given to solve the paper.
  • For every correct answer, 3 marks will be allotted which means paper will be of total 204 marks.
  • There will be negative marking of -1 for every negative response.

According to CAT Syllabus, various topics in each section includes:

  • DILR (Data Interpretation and Logical reasoning) – Line charts, column graphs, calendars, blood relations, number and letter series, tables, pie charts, bar graphs, Venn diagrams, Caselets, seating arrangement, clocks, other basic reasoning questions, logical matching, logical connectives, binary logic, syllogism, etc.
  • VARC (Verbal ability & reading comprehension) – Meaning-usage match, jumbled paragraph, odd one out, summary questions, facts inferences judgements, Sentence correction, English Grammar, syllogism, Synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks, reading comprehension, para-jumbles, basic vocabulary, etc.
  • QA (Quantitative ability) – LCM & HCF, Ratio and Proportion, cubes, profit, mensuration, permutation and combination, number systems, speed time & distance, averages, percentages, time and work, loss and discount, logarithm, inequalities, set, theory and function, coordinate geometry, etc.
