JEE Main Exam Update: The Central Board of Secondary Education has today released an important notice for the JEE Main 2026 aspirants.
For this session, NTA has announced major changes in the JEE application process, including the requirement to provide the Class XI registration number.
The requirement was earlier mentioned in the Class X/XII Board Examinations Date Sheet released on 30th October 2025, but many students and parents have reported that schools are not sharing this crucial detail.
CBSE Asks Schools for Class XI Registration JEE
The JEE Main 2026 registration is ongoing. National Testing Agency on 31st October 2025 released the form, and the last day to apply for the JEE Main 2026 session 1 is 27th October 2025 till 9:00 PM.
When applying, all the aspirants are required to enter their Class 11th registration number. NTA is collecting this information to avoid clashes between the JEE Main exam schedule and CBSE Class 12 board exams.
This registration number helps NTA verify student details, cross-check records with CBSE, and plan exam dates more accurately. Linking Class 11 and Class 12 data also reduces errors and ensures smoother coordination.
CBSE has received multiple complaints from students and parents that Class XII candidates applying for JEE Main 2026 are facing difficulties obtaining their Class XI registration numbers from schools. The Board has strongly reiterated that all affiliated schools must provide this information to students without delay to ensure smooth completion of the application process.
Students who have not yet received their Class XI registration numbers are advised to contact their schools immediately to avoid any last-minute issues while filling out the JEE Main 2026 form.

NTA will be conducting the JEE Main 2026 January session exam between 21 January 2026 to 30 January 2026, and JEE Main Session 2 between 2 April 2026 and 9 April 2026.
