GATE Exam Update: Are you among the thousands of engineering aspirants applying for GATE 2026? If yes, then you might already know that the application form is released today, on August 28, 2025.
IIT Guwahati has activated the official link to apply at gate2026.iitg.ac.in, and candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can now fill out their forms.
But here’s something important: just meeting the GATE eligibility criteria is not enough. Every year, many candidates make avoidable mistakes during the application process, which leads to their forms getting rejected, costing them the chance to appear for the exam.

GATE 2026 Registration Things You Must Know Before Applying
IIT Guwahati has opened the GATE 2026 registration window for 1 month from 28th August to 28th September 2025. However, with late fees, candidates can still apply until 09th October 2025.
The last date for the change of Category, Paper, and Examination City. Adding a new test paper, and a change of personal details (additional fee applicable per change), November 06, 2025.
The only medium for application is through the GOAPS portal. A candidate who wants to appear for one or two test papers, note that you have to fill out only one application form.
GATE 2026 Registration Direct Link
For GATE 2026, the application fees for all categories are increased. Compared to last year, ₹100 is increased for Female / SC / ST / PwD candidates, and ₹200 for all other candidates (including foreign nationals).
Candidates belonging to the PwD category who have physical limitations, including reduced writing speed, are required to request a scribe at the time of filling out the application form.
The GATE information bulletins read that “The data provided by the candidates during the application process, as well as their GATE results, may be shared for admission/ recruitment purposes.”
Before submitting the GATE 2025 Application Form, the candidate MUST ensure that all the details and all the necessary supporting documents are filled/ uploaded, and there is NO ERROR in that process. An application once submitted CANNOT be changed/ rectified. As a checklist, the candidate MUST verify that he/she has filled in and uploaded the following information, whichever is applicable:
- Personal information (name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents’/ guardian’s name, parents’/ guardian’s mobile number (should be different from the candidate’s mobile number)).
- Address for Communication (including PIN code). • Eligibility degree details (Roll No/ Registration No, College address, PIN code of college).
- Good quality image of a recent photograph conforming to the requirements specified.
- Good quality image of signature conforming to the requirements specified.
- Details and a good quality scanned copy of the same valid photo ID Proof that will be carried to the examination hall.
- Category certificate (SC/ ST/ PwD) in case a concession in the application fee is claimed.
IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam on 7th, 8th, 14th & 15th February 2026. Candidates whose forms will be accepted by the authority are going to be eligible to take the examination.
