GATE 2026 Paper Analysis
The exam of GATE 2026 is scheduled on 7th, 8th, 14th & 15th February 2026. IIT Guwahati is the organising authority this year. Exam is conducted through online computer based test mode.

Day 1 (7th February 2026):
GATE 2026 Day 1 exam has been successfuly conducted on 7th February 2026. Slot 1 exams were conducted for AG, GG, ES, IN, MN, MA, TF, XL, XE papers. We have updated analysis for few subjects below:
ES Paper – The paper was moderate in difficulty level, Paper had standard gate exam pattern having featured balanced mix of MSQs, MCQs and NAT questions. Most sections were easy to moderate and closely related to previous GATE trends.
IN Paper – Level of this paper was moderate to difficult. Engineering Mathematics and GA were relatively scoring. The core instrumentation subjects were calcultive and conceptual. Some said it was time consuming with few lenghthy problems.
XE Paper was considered mostly moderate in level of diffculty. While, paper level of CS-1 was considered moderate to difficult.
Slot 2 was conducted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm (Afternoon Session – AN) for papers – BT, AE, CH, GE, CY, XH, PH. CH paper was considered moderate in difficulty level. There is balanced mix of questions including conceptual, numerical, application based questions. Mostly questions included alignment with core GATE CH syllabus and previous year trends.
Day 2 (8th February 2026)
The Day 2 exam of GATE 2026 was conducted successfully on 8th February 2026. Students attempted Slot 1 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm (Forenoon Session – FN) – ST, CS-1
The slot 2 of GATE 2026 was conducted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm (Afternoon Session – AN) – NM, CS-2, EY, PE.
| CS-1 (Shift 1) | CS-1 – Paper was moderate in difficulty level. The compiler design part was considered difficult. while the operating system part of this exam was considered moderate to difficult. Students considered the Algorithms part difficult while the theory of computation was considered moderate to difficult. |
| CS-2 (Shift 2) | The other shift of CS paper was moderately tough as per the reviews of students. The questions were noticed to be concept application over direct theory type. There was a balanced mix of core CS subjects and Engineering mathematics with various tricky numerical and MSQ based problems. The difficulty level was slighky higher or comparable to recent GATE CS exam. |

Year 2024:
| Day 1 (3rd February 2024): | The exam shift of GATE 2024 (Day 1) has been successfully conducted on 3rd February 2024. The CBT shift 1 of Day 1 exam has been conducted in forenoon session from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. It has been organised for 30 papers at various designated test centres. As per the students reaction, the DA & AI paper was considered moderate to difficult. The candidates found the questions bit tricky to answer. The Chemistry paper was also observed as moderate to difficult and some questions were tricky. |
| Day 2 (4th February 2024) | The exam shift of GATE 2024 (Day 1) has been successfully conducted on 3rd February 2024. The CBT shift 1 of Day 1 exam has been conducted in two shifts – morning & forenoon session from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm & 2.30- 5.50 pm. As per students reaction, the Civil Engineering paper was considered moderate in difficulty level. As for the Chemical Engineering paper, it was considered easier compared to previous year paper. The paper of Mathematics was moderately difficult as it had tricky and lengthy questions in nature. |
For Year 2023:
| Day 1 (4th February 2023) | The candidates who have appeared for the CS exam held in the morning shift analysed the paper as moderately difficult. The topic asked in exam includes topics as digital logic, discrete mathematics, Programming and Data Structures, computer networks. The total number of questions asked in exam was 65, in which 34 MCQ questions, 16 NAT and 15 MSQ questions. As per the students, the overall paper level was moderate for ME exam held in evening shift. The total number of question in exam was 65, where NAT question were 25, MSQ were 8 & MCQ ware 32. The questions asked from topics like thermodynamics (1 question), material science (4 questions), heat transfer, strength of material (4 questions), welding, theory of machine, EOQ (1 question), LPP (1 question) |
| Day 2 (5th February 2023) | The candidates who have appeared for the EE exam held in the morning shift analysed the paper as moderately difficult. The total number of questions asked in exam was 65, in which 6 MSQ’s questions, 31 MCQ’s and 28 NAT questions. The candidates who have appeared for the EC exam held in the evening shift analysed the paper as moderate to tough. The total number of questions asked in exam was 65, in which 4 MSQ’s questions, 45 MCQ’s and 27 NAT questions. The topics asked in exam includes as General Aptitude, EM, network, control system, electronic devices, analog circuit, digital circuit, electromagnetic, signal and system and communication. The paper analysis for ES & XH exam held in morning shift is yet to be released. The paper analysis for BM, CY, exam for evening shift is yet to be released. |
| Day 3 (11th February 2023) | CE paper was moderate to tough. Maximum questions were from Engineering Mathematics, Geo-Technical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Hydrology. Majority of the questions were asked from Foundation/ Geotech. |

GATE 2026 Answer Key
The GATE 2026 Answer Key (Institutional) will be released soon after exam. The response sheet will be released via online mode in February 2026. Candidates can check official GATE 2026 answer key in February 2026.
Candidates can also raise objection against answer key from February 2026. The final answer key will be published after the objection period. With the help on answer key, candidates can assume their marks even before result declaration.
GATE 2026 Result
Candidates can check GATE 2026 Result in March 2026. It will be published via online mode. Students have to use their login credentials such as application number & password to check result.
Result contains all details such as Students’s Name, Roll number, marks in each subjects. Students are advised to keep their result safe for further use.
