JEE Main Exam Update: The National Testing Agency has made a few major changes to the JEE Main 2026 application form submission process this year.
On 31st October 2025, the authority started the JEE Main 2026 registration at jeemain.nta.nic.in. The mode to submit application form is online only.
Candidates applying should note that they are now required to capture a live photograph as a part of the JEE Main form filling process.
Is Live Photo necessary in JEE Main 2026?
Yes, as per the JEE Main information bulletin 2026, page number 04, section 3 “Application Procedure” step number 2, candidates, while applying, will have to go through a live photograph.
JEE brochure reads that “The candidate will have to upload his/her live photograph at the time of filling of the application form and will also have to upload his/her Scanned Images of Photograph (.jpeg/.jpg), Signature, Class X or Equivalent Certificate/Marks-sheet and PwD/PwBD Certificate (wherever applicable).”

The JEE Mains application form steps include filling Contact Details> Personal Details> Disability Details> Identity Details >Register APAAR ID Exam and Centre Details >Qualification Details >Additional Details> Emergency Contact Details >Capture Live Photograph> Document Upload> Final Submit.
Step number 10 is for capturing a Live Photograph. To complete this step, JEE aspirants are required to switch on their camera or connect their webcam to the device used for filling the Application Form. If the candidate’s device does not support a webcam, the QR code on the right can be scanned using a mobile device/tablet, etc.

While allowing the camera to click a picture, candidates are required to ensure there is a light-colored background with proper lighting, and 80% face visibility (including ears, without a mask).
All the aspirants are required to fill out the JEE Main 2026 form very carefully and as instructed by the NTA because any error in the form may cause application rejection. The last day to apply for JEE Main 2026 session 1 is 27th November 2025.
NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2026 January session exam between 21 January 2026 to 30 January 202,6, and JEE Main Session 2 between 2 April 2026 and 9 April 2026.
