Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) is a National Level entrance exam conducted once in every year in Physics and Theoretical Computer Science at various exam centers. Moreover, it is recognised by ANRF (SERB) as the National Eligibility Test (NET).

Exam is conducted to offer admission into Ph.D, M.Sc and Integrated PhD programmes in Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, Computational Biology in various institutes such as NISER, IIST, IISc, etc. The scores of JEST will be used by the participating institutes of JEST together with their respective eligibility criteria to shortlist the candidates for admission.

JEST 2026 Application Form

• JEST 2026 application form has been released on 6th March 2026. 
• Candidates can submit the registration form through online mode, no other mode is available. 
• To avoid rejection of form, one must fulfill the complete eligibility criteria provided below.

Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Tirupati may or may not provide any facility to make corrections in JEST 2026 application form. Candidates will be able to make corrections via online mode. If the authority provides a facility, it will be open for two to three days only. One will have to use their login credentials to access the edit facility. 

JEST 2026 Eligibility Criteria

For Ph.D Programmes: 

• Ph.D in Physics at All Participating Institutes: Applying candidates must have M.Sc in Physics to be eligible for admission. 
• Ph.D in Computational Biology at IMSc: Candidates must complete M.Sc/ M.E/ M.Tech/ MCA in Computer Science to apply. 
• Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc: Applying candidates must pass M.Sc/ M.E/ M.Tech in Computer Science & related disciplines to be eligible. 
• M.Sc in Physics: To be eligible for admission, candidates must have passed B.Tech/ M.Sc/ B.E/ M.Tech in applied physics and mathematics. 

For Integrated Ph.D Programmes: 

• Integrated M.Tech-Ph.D Programme at IIA: Candidates must have M.Sc (Physics/ Applied Physics)/ Post-B.Sc. (Hons) in Optics and Optoelectronics/ Radio Physics and Electronics. 
• Integrated Ph.D programme in Theoretical Computer Science at IMCs: Applying candidates must have passed B.Sc/ B.E/ B.Tech/ MCA in Computer Science and or related disciplines to be eligible.

How to Apply for JEST 2026

• Press the “Application Portal” link on the homepage. 
• Every candidate is required to register at the registration portal which is a two-step process. 
• Now register yourself by entering the basic information including your name, email ID, and phone number. 
• Clicking the “GENERATE OTP” button will open a screen with captcha. 
• Once you fill it & submit an OTP will be sent to your registered email ID & mobile number. 
• Proceed to the next stage after submitting the received OTP. 
• Verify the information you provide in the “Declaration” section to complete the registration process. 
• Once the verification is completed, you can fill up the application form by clicking the link “GO TO APPLICATION”. 
• Fill the details such as Personal, academic educational details, & Exam city etc. 
• After form filling, upload the scanned documents such as photograph & signature in prescribed format.
