Admission Procedure

Students can get admission in law courses on the basis of merit or through entrance test. Most of the law colleges of Tamil Nadu offer direct admission based on qualifying marks. To get admission, candidates can also appear the entrance exam (CLAT) held in the month of May.

Entrance Exam

In Tamil Nadu, admission into law courses is done on merit basis. Merit is prepared on performance of candidate in qualifying examination. No state level law entrance test is organized in Tamil Nadu for granting admission. Besides this, some law schools consider CLAT score card for admission.

Law Admission 2017

Candidates applying through CLAT are informed that the application form of CLAT 2017 is available from 1st January 2017. The last date of applying online will be 31st March 2017. Aspirants can apply for CLAT only through online mode.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For LLB programme, candidates must have passed graduation (in any stream) from any recognized University.
  • For LL.M programme, candidates must have passed LL.B with at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST category candidates).
  • Candidates who have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with at least 45% marks (40% marks for reserved category candidates) are eligible to apply for integrated law courses.
  • Upper age limit is not prescribed for appearing CLAT.

Selection Procedure

Candidates are selected for admission in law courses on the basis of merit and followed by counselling process. Merit list is prepared on the basis of candidate’s performance in qualifying examination. Few colleges of Tamil Nadu like Tamil Nadu National Law School accept CLAT score card for providing admission. Seat allotment is done through counselling process.
