NEET 2026 Exam Mode: Online or Paper-Based, What to Expect?

 NEET Exam Update: The conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate examination is again being considered by the authority.

Recently, according to the media, a discussion is ongoing regarding the mode of the NEET 2026 exam.

The Ministry of Education is currently conducting a detailed feasibility study to assess the implications of such a shift. This includes evaluating the impact on students’ performance, accessibility, and the overall integrity and security of the examination process.

What is NEET 2026 Exam Mode?

For the past few years, the NEET examination has been conducted in traditional offline or paper-pencil-based test (PBT) mode due to a large number of candidates and logistical issues.

But over the past two to three years, questions have been raised about the conduct of the national-level medical entrance examination due to paper leaks and irregularities. To ensure fairness in the NEET examination, the decision to change its mode is currently being reviewed.

Candidates taking the examination can expect changes in the NEET exam pattern, including the exam being held in computer-based mode. Till now, no official announcement regarding what NEET UG 2026 exam mode has been made. The final decision will be taken in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The NTA will conduct the NEET UG 2026 examination in the first week of May 2026. Last year, the exam was held on 04th May 2025 from 02:00 P.M. to 05:00 P.M. at 5468 different centres located in 552 cities throughout the country and 14 cities outside India.
