NIFT 2026 Exam Pattern
It is necessary for the candidates to go through a complete exam pattern. Candidates become aware regarding the pattern of the exam. It helps the candidates to know about the marking scheme followed in the entrance test. Authority conducts GAT, CAT, GD & PI interview rounds. General ability test (GAT) is conducted for B.Des and M.Des programmes.
Creative ability test (CAT) is conducted to judge the candidate’s intuitive ability, design ability and power of observation in concept development. An important feature of this test is the innovative and creative use of colour and illustration skills.

Candidates appearing for NIFT 2026 entrance test have to prepare themselves according to the given below exam pattern:
- Mode: NIFT 2026 entrance exam is organised through online mode as a proctored exam.
- Language: The question paper is in English & Hindi language.
- Sections: GAT test consist of questions from various sections namely quantitative ability, English comprehension, communication ability, analytical ability, Current affairs and G.K.
- Number of Questions: In B.Des total questions will be 100 and in M.Des total questions will be 120.
- Duration of Exam: The time duration for both entrance tests will be 2 & 3 hours.
GAT Exam:
GAT is also conducted for B.F.Tech, M.F.M and M.F.Tech programmes.
- Mode: It is conducted through online mode.
- Duration: The time duration for these tests is 2 or 3 hours.
- Sections: It consist of questions from various sections namely quantitative ability, analytical ability, communication ability and English comprehension, Current affairs and G.K, case study.
- Number of Questions: Total number of questions asked in B.F.Tech, M.F.M and M.F.Tech is different.
- Marking Scheme: 25% of full marks is deducted.

Situation Test
Candidates those will qualify the entrance test will have to further appear for Situation test, GD and PI interview round. This test will be designed in order to test and calculate the innovative and material handling ability according to the provided materials and situation. The test will of 100 marks and total time duration to complete the test will be of 3 hours.
GD and PI Round
GD round will consist of 15 to 20 minutes discussion related to assigned case study. This round will evaluate the candidate on various factors like interpersonal skills, problem solving approach, effective communication etc.
In the personal interview round, candidates will be evaluated on the basis of various factors like Aptness for the course, creative thinking, general awareness and aptitude, career orientation, communication, overall achievement in co-curricular activities and academics etc.
