In this article, we have provided the complete details related to NIFT Syllabus 2026 for various sections like General Ability, creative ability test, GD and PI interview, etc.
NIFT 2026 Syllabus
NIFT 2026 entrance exam will be conducted in four sections:
- General Ability Test
- Creative Ability Test
- Situation Test
- GD and PI Interview
General Ability Test (GAT):
In GAT, the questions will be asked from various sections which are:
- Quantitative Ability
- English Comprehension
- Communication Ability
- Analytical Ability
- Current Affairs and GK
- Case Study
Quantitative Ability:
This sub-test will be designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The exam will includes questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Fractions, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.
English Comprehension:
This test aims to test the candidate’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage, and test the Basic English language.
Communication Ability:
This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It will include questions on synonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, antonyms, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings etc.
Analytical Ability:
This sub-test will be designed to test the candidate’s capacity for ability of inference and logic from the given information. In this section, questions will be asked from the logical reasoning areas and candidates have to draw logical conclusions from the analytical reasoning questions.
Current Affairs and GK:
This section will test the basic general knowledge skill and current affairs.
Case Study:
This exam will be based on a situation of an industry environment. It will helps to evaluate the candidate’s managerial ability in that particular situation.
Creative Ability Test (CAT)
This exam will be conducted for admission in B.Des and M.Des programmes only. In this section, questions will be asked to judge the intuitive ability, design ability and power of observation in concept development of the candidate.
An important aspect of the test is the innovative and creative use of colour and illustration skills. Candidates will have to use their imagination and work on their drawing skills to create new ideas by using colours.

Situation Test
Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance test will be required to take a Situation Test which will be a hands-on test to calculate the candidate’s expertise for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a provided set of materials. Candidates will not be provided/ allowed additional material for use.
The model will be evaluated on composition of elements, innovative and creative use of given material, construction skill, colour scheme, space visualisation, finesse of the model and overall presentation etc. These parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept behind the model constructed.
Since the medium of instruction and write-up in NIFT will be English. Therefore, no candidates will be given marks for write-up in any other language. The use of additional material/outside in making the design/model will not be permitted.
GD & PI Interview
GD would comprise approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study assigned. In this a panel of experts will assess the candidates on various parameters including Leadership qualities, Conceptual clarity, Knowledge of the topic assigned, Ability to generate new ideas, Interpersonal skills, Contribution made to the topic, Problem solving approach, Effective communication.
Candidates shall be evaluated on the various parameters by a panel, in the Personal Interview such as Aptness for the course, Communication, Career orientation, General awareness and aptitude, Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities, creative & lateral thinking.
