The Gandhigram Rural Institute Deemed University, Dindigul

The Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed University, Dindigul is founded in year 1956. Since its establishment GRI has been contributing to higher education and rural higher education. It is a deemed university approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). . The institute has grade ‘A’ by NAAC during the re-accreditation by NAAC in 2010.

Campus

The institution comprises of seven different faculties, 2 departments and 7 centres offering a 52 academics programmes, ranging from certificate courses, to graduate programmes, to doctoral programmes. At present the institute has 3501 students, and 148 teaching and 168 non- teaching staff. The institution is located about 10kms south to Dindigul town and 55kms north of the temple city of Madurai.

Facilities

GRI has on-campus accommodation facility in the form of guest house. The hostel facility is also available for the students provided by the institution. It has well-established library, computer centre, internet browsing centre, centre for E-content development, museum of constructive programme, classrooms, cafeteria, lawns and gardens, laboratories and extra co-curricular activities.

Programmes

The UGC, New Delhi has developed academic programs in rural development, rural economics and education extension, rural oriented science, sociology, science, English, Tamil and Indian languages. The institution runs B.Tech and M.tech programmes in renewable energy. The institution also offers B.Sc agriculture programmes. The courses offered by the institution in agriculture department are:

The institution offers diploma, degree and post-doctorate levels programmes.

Placement

The institution offers the campus placement service for the students. Every year it organizes the campus interview at college. Various companies visited the college and recruit many students of the final year. Till now most of the students of the college are well-placed in various organizations.
