JEE Main Percentile 2024

Applicants who will be top scorer in each section will be assigned 100 percentile. The percentile scores will be calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties between two candidates who have appeared in exam.

The percentile will be calculated for each candidate on a scale of 100 to 0 and through this candidate will be able to analyse their JEE Main percentile or marks.

How to Calculate NTA Scores

The result will be prepared for each session in the form of raw scores and percentile scores for each subject i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The total percentile will be calculated are as follows:

Total Percentile (T1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for the session with raw score equal to or less than T1
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Mathematics Percentile (M1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for session with raw score equal to or less than M1 score
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Physics Percentile (P1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for session with raw score equal to or less than P1 score
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Chemistry Percentile (C1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for session with raw score equal to or less than C1 score
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Why JEE Main Result Declared in Percentile ?

JEE Main is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) on different dates basically in two shifts per day. Besides maintaining equivalence among various papers, a situation might arise that the difficulty level of various exam shifts varies. Some candidates may find the paper easier as compared to another one.

Candidates who will attempt relatively hard set of question paper will end up getting lower marks compared to those candidates who will get easy set. To overcome this situation “Normalisation procedure based on Percentile score” is used ensuring that candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to different sets of difficulty level.

JEE Main Tie Breaker Guidelines:

JEE Main Tie Breaker Guidelines will come to effect when two or more candidates obtain equal percentile scores. The inter-se merit will be determined according to following rules in case of tie:

  • Candidates who will obtain higher Percentile score in Physics will be given higher JEE Main rank.
  • Applicants who will score higher Percentile in Chemistry will get high rank in JEE Main exam.
  • The candidates who will obtain higher Percentile score in Mathematics will get higher rank.
