Ceramic Engineering

When we talk about Ceramic Engineering. The first question that comes in your mind:

“What is Ceramic Engineering?” & “Why you want to make your career in it?”

Let’s know about it!

Ceramic Engineering or Ceramic Technology is an important field in engineering courses.

When you hear about the word “Ceramic” then usually an image of pottery appears your mind.

“Ceramic Engineering is the technology of creating non-metallic & inorganic objects having crystalline structure, through the process of heat, or precipitation reactions at the lower temperatures.”

Ceramics are used in the gas burner nozzles, Space Shuttle program, ballistic protection, bio-medical implants, nuclear fuel uranium oxide pellets, jet engine turbine blades, and missile nose cones.

It is the science & technology of creating objects from inorganic, non-metallic materials. There is lots of opportunity in private & public sector. It is a branch of engineering which deals with the science & technology of creating objects from inorganic & non-metallic materials.

In Aerospace Industry, ceramics are used for manufacturing airframes, aircraft engines, space shuttles tiles, etc.

Do you want to know more about it?

Yes!

In simple words Ceramic Engineering can be described as:

“Ceramic Engineering” is the one of the most important branch of engineering that deals with the creation of objects from inorganic & non-metallic materials.

Thus, Ceramic Engineering includes purification of raw materials, production of chemical compounds and complete study of their structures.

ceramic engineering

It combines the principles of Science, Technology & engineering.

The “Ceramic” word is derived from the Greek word “Keramikos” that means Pottery.

In 1907, Abraham Darby first used coke in Shropshire, England, to develop the yield of a smelting process. Presently, Coke is widely used to produce carbide ceramics.

Courses & Duration

Next question that comes in your mind is:

How to become a Ceramic Engineer?

Those who aim to become a ceramic engineer must have an engineering degree in ceramic engineering. You can pursue Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in ceramic engineering. This can be done as courses after 12th science. The courses are mentioned below:

  • Diploma Courses: It is a three year course.
  • B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology): It is full time course of four years.
  • Integrated Dual Degree (B.Tech-M.Tech): The duration of this course is Five years.
  • M.Tech (Master of Technology): This degree duration is two years.
  • Ph.D

If you pass higher secondary board examination with Science (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) then you can pursue B.Tech in Ceramic Engineering.
