ANM stands for Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery it is a diploma course which focus on the study of health care of various individuals. It also taught about how to take care of equipment, setting up of Operation Theater, provide medication timely to patient and maintain records.

ANM course trains the students & make them capable to work as basic health workers. ANM graduates main focus is given towards the treatment of children, women & old age people.

The ANM course is practically a diploma programme which allows non-science students to pursue a career in nurse practitioner. However, a GNM course is designed to enrol students who have science background or have cleared 2 year ANM course.

GNM referred as General Nursing and Midwifery it deals with the education of nurses in general health care, nursing, and midwifery.

ANM is a one year diploma course and GNM is a three and half year diploma course and service areas are same for ANM & GNM diploma holders.

How to pursue these courses?

ANM is a one year duration course with the eligibility of 10+2 (from Arts or Science stream), 10th class. Students have to secure at least 40-50% marks in the qualifying examination. The minimum age requirement is 17 years. Only female students can apply for this course. Students age should not exceed more than 35 years.

GNM is a three and half year diploma course with the eligibility of 10+2 passed with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The age limit is minimum 17 years and maximum 30 years. This course is for both male and female students.

You can apply for GNM course after passing 10+2 with PCB group (Check Popular Medical Courses after 12th) from any recognized board and for ANM course you can apply after passing 10th or 10+2 from science or arts stream. Some colleges and institutions organize entrance exam for providing admissions while some other colleges gives admission on the basis of interview and marks obtained in the 10+2.

    1. The salary in the state govt. hospitals start from 20 to 22 thousands per month. in private hospitals you may get around 10 to 15 thousand.

    1. yes you can apply for ANM, you will need your 10th certificates, and you have to pass the entrance test for admission to the ANM colleages.

    1. The fees structure as per Indian nursing council is: First Inspection Fees- 50000, Annual Affiliation Fees-10000, Re-Inspection / Enhancement of Seats- 15000.

    1. The advertisement for B Sc nursing & GNM courses is released by AFMC in the month of Oct./Dec respectively. Candidates have to pass the written test that will be conducted in the month of Feb/March.

    1. ANM is good in term of nursing. For that you must go for ANM test from any organizing and offering institutions.

    1. See, In India pattern GNM and B.Sc nursing is not done through distance or correspondence, May be you get your desirous pattern in other country but for that there should be some rule and regulations for entry.
