Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam

The Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam is the third constituent Agricultural college of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University located in Killikulam, Vallanad, Tuticorin. The institution was established in 1984-85. The institution is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and approved by ICAR, New Delhi. The institution covers the three main aspects of Education, Research and Extension.

Campus

At the beginning, the College started functioning in rented building of MDT Hindu College, Pettai in Tirunelveli. Subsequently, after the acquisition of lands and buildings from the State Seed Farm, Killikulam, a part of the educational activities was shifted to Killikulam during 1986-’87. Consequent on the completion of hostel buildings, entire academic activities were shifted to Killikulam campus from 01.11.1989. The campus has all state-of-art facilities.

Facilities

The institution has all amenities with well-established infrastructure. The institution also offers extracurricular activities like cultural and sports, medical & first aid, etc The institution has spacious classrooms, laboratories equipped with all modern instruments, accommodation for girls and boys, canteen in campus, transportation facility, a wide central library, common room for girls and attached mess in hostel.

Programmes

The institution was upgraded as Agricultural College and Research Institute in 1989. The college was also upgraded as a Post-graduate teaching institute from November 1990. The first batch of B.Sc. (Ag.), graduates passed out in 1988. The institution was made into a co-education institution from 1990-’91. The courses offered by the institution is n the UG, PG and Doctorate levels. Placement

An active employment cell has been formed within the Institution for the placement of graduates. The placement officer, who is an executive of reputed multinational company, is looking after the cell on full-time basis. Many students have been placed in every year in reputed companies.
