Jorhat Engineering College came to existence in 1959. It is the premier institution of North East India and the second Government Engineering College of Assam. The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, Assam and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. The vision of the college is to provide global excellent education in scientific and technical and research field, to serve as a valuable source for industry and society. The mission of JEC is to provide technical knowledge by engaging researches and to enhance academic growth by offering up to date undergraduate and postgraduate and to make collaborations which offer opportunities for enduring interaction with college circles and industry.
The JEC campus is located at Garmur in Jorhat (Assam), the second biggest city of Assam. Jorhat is 308 kms away from the capital Dispur and is well-connected by Rail, Road, and Air with other parts of the country.
Being an engineering college the JEC provides all the necessary facilities to its students. The facilities at JEC campus are well stocked central library, separate hostel facility for boys & girls, well equipped labs, health centre, internet facility, transport facility and canteen.

The MNCs who visits college for campus selection are Infosys TCS, ONGC, NTPC, Coal India Ltd., Punj Lloyd, M&M, Huawei Technologies, Indian Army and Power Grid.
