National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, Ranchi

National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, (NIFFT) Ranchi is a central funded technical institute established in the year 1966, by the government of India in collaboration with UNDP-USESCO. The NIFFT is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. The institute is the leading institute in the country for teaching, training, research, Consultancy and documentation and also in the information retrieval services including metal casting and metal forming technology. The management team of the institute includes board of governors, members representing govt. of India, public and private enterprises, technical and R & D organizations.

Campus:

The institute is situated on the southern periphery of Ranchi on the Ranchi-Chaibasa highway (Jharkhand). The institute campus is spread in an area of 67 acres. The institute is located at about 3 km from the Hatia railway station and about 6.5 km from Birsa Munda Airport thus, the college is well accessible from rail and air transport.

Facilities:

The NIFFT Ranchi provides all major facilities like well equipped labs and workshops, the major laboratory includes Metallography Laboratory, Sand Laboratory, Flexible Manufacturing System. The institute also provides many computing facilities like DEFORM, PROCAST, UNIGRAPHICS, CATIA, MATLAB etc. The other facilities provided by the institute include sports facility, separate separate hostel facility for boys and girls, library facility canteen and mess facility.

Activities:

Many activities are carried throughout the year some of them include social and cultural events, Tech Fest, sports meet etc.

Programmes:

The institute has six departments and offering courses in graduate and postgraduate engineering disciplines with specialization in Foundry Technology and Forge Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The admission to these courses is based on JEE Mains Score and Gate Rank. The college is offering the following courses:

Placement:

The NIFFT has a separate Training and Placement cell which helps the students in their training and placement related activities. The companies that visit the campus are generally from the core engineering sector like automobiles, iron and steel, foundry and forge plants etc. The major recruiters of the college include Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors, Hero Group etc.
