G.S.V.M Medical College, Kanpur

G.S.V.M Medical College (Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College), Kanpur was the first medical college of the U. P. that came into existence in November 1955. The college was inaugurated by the Honorable Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. It was approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and affiliated to the Kanpur University. Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (LLR Hospital) that is also known as Hallet Hospital, is associated with the college.

Campus

The college campus is located in the heart of the famous and industrial city of Kanpur. It is situated in Swaroop Nagar, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The college has a sprawling campus with the hospital and college sections. It has a separate teaching and administrative blocks and also a residential block.

Facilities

The central library of the college has a large and new collection of reference books, textbooks and national and international journals. The library is air-conditioned and well-equipped with internet facility. There is a various departments of Microbiology, Pathology, and Forensic Medicine. The college also has a blood bank, fully computerized SBI bank with the locker facility, lecture theatres and examination hall. The college auditorium has a seating capacity of 673 seats along with a huge stage and facility for screening films. The classrooms are fully air-conditioned and equipped with audio-visual aids. There is also a different hostel facility for boys and girls.

Programmes

G.S.V.M Medical College, Kanpur provides Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). It is a 4 and 1/2 Years duration programme. There are total 190 seats available for MBBS out of which 159 seats will be filled through C.P.M.T., 28 seats through AIPMT and 3 seats for government nominee. The college also offers M.D/M.S/PG diploma programmes and also offers PhD courses.
