
NEET Tie Breaking Rule Updates: National Testing Agency has introduced an update for the NEET 2025 tie-breaking process.
The new provisions will affect how to determine the inter se-merit among candidates with equal marks or percentile scores.
Details regarding the tie breaking policy are officially available in the NEET information bulletin 2025 page number 73.
Candidates who have taken the NEET UG examination should be aware of all the changes for the session 2025. NTA has formed a new rule to break ties in NEET scores when existing criteria are insufficient.
If the criteria mentioned are exhausted and the tie persists, they will resolve it through a random process under the guidance of an independent expert committee says the official.

What is the tie breaker for NEET 2025?
According to Chapter 14: Merit List and Qualifying Criteria of NEET brochure, under 14.2 The inter-se-merit of candidates for tie-breaking below we have given the tie-breaking rule:
In case two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG) 2025, the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:
- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,
- Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test,
- Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by
- Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test, followed by
- Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by
- In case, a-g criteria are exhausted and the tie still persists, it will be resolved through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.
