Government Medical College, Amritsar

Government Medical College is one of the oldest medical institution formerly known as the Glancy Medical College and was founded in the year 1864. It was started in Lahore but in 1920 it is located in Amritsar, India. The Bebe Nanki Mother & Child Centre and the Guru Teg Bahadur Diagnostic and Super-specialty Complex are the associated and affiliated hospital of the college. It has the affiliation from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot and the courses offered by the college are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Campus

The college is situated in the circular road and Majitha road of Amritsar, a holy city in the Punjab state. It is located close to the Central Bank of India. The college houses hospitals in its campus where students are trained. The campus is surrounded by greenaries and provides pollution free environment.

Facilities

The institution is well-facilitated with teaching hospitals, air-conditioned library accommodating
35777 books, 3220 national journals, 6780 international journals and attached reading room, Wi-Fi/internet facility in the library, in-house residential facilities along with common room for both boys and girls, recreational facilities like indoor gates, outdoor games, gymnasium availability, lecture theatres equipped with latest audio-video aids, residential quarter for teaching and non-teaching staff.

Programmes

The courses offered by the Government Medical College, Amritsar are MBBS, MD/MS, etc. The institution admits 150 new students every year in MBBS. Along with academic education, the institution provides training to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. 85% seats of the college are filled by the Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET) conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot.
