JEE Main 2026 Dress Code Guide: The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2026 is all set to begin on 21st January 2026. Aspirants who will be taking the exam should know that they have to follow dress code & exam day guidelines while appearing for JEE Main 2026.
National Testing Agency will conduct the JEE Main 2026 January Session exams on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 28th & 29th January 2026 in CBT mode.

No such strict instructions have been announced by the NTA. However, JEE aspirants are required to follow some basic and general requirements which are mentioned in the admit card.

Which Dress is Suitable for JEE Mains?
There is no such dress code announced or mentioned by the NTA or mentioned. However, candidates are required to follow a few general dressing instructions while appearing for JEE Main:
For Female Candidates:
- Clothing: Wear simple clothes like salwar suits, tops, trousers and T-shirts. Dont wear short clothes or over stylish clothes like dresses, skirts, crop tops, etc. Also avoid clothing with heavy embroidery, cuts, buttons, or full sleeves.
- Footwear: Avoid wearing shoes & high heels, wear slippers if not, then simple sandals. Your footwear should be open.
- Jewellery and Accessories: Any aspirant can’t wear jewellery such as rings, chains, anklets (payal), bracelets, etc, hairpins, or other accessories, as these are not allowed. Only use one hair band or clutch to tie your hair.
For Male Candidates:
- Clothing: Wear simple clothes like shirts or T-shirts. Prefer to wear half sleeves. If feeling cold carry a jacket or shall with you.
- Trousers: Try to wear trousers or jeans which have no pockets and multiple zippers. No rugged or stylish pants are suggested.
- Footwear: Don’t wear shoes, open sandals or slippers are suggested to wore. There are chances that maybe shoes will be asked to be removed before entering the examination hall.
JEE Main 2026 Dos and Don’ts
After conducting research and looking at previous years’ common reasons why candidates were not allowed to take the exam, along with general guidelines for what to wear and avoid, we’ve compiled the following list for both male and female candidates to prepare effectively.
Dos:
- It’s important to wear comfortable clothes, wearing something uncomfortable can distract your mind from writing the paper. Wear light-coloured clothes, simple and loose fitting.
- If you have any pockets in your clothes then make sure to check before entering the exam hall that there are no pieces of paper, tissues, or any other thing.
- Aspirants are required to carry one hard copy of their JEE Main admit card along with one ID proof.

Don’ts:
- No candidate is allowed to wear smartwatches, analog watches, fitness bands, or any electronic gadgets (earphones, calculator, phone, etc).
- You cannot wear caps, mufflers, scarves, Face Masks (unless required for medical reasons), gloves, overcoats, long socks, blinky or vibrant colour clothes, noisy footwear, etc.
- Carrying a handbag, side bag, backpack, handkerchief, and tissues is not allowed.
