NExT Exam Pattern: Check Paper Structure & Questions Type

NExT for MBBS Exam Pattern is released for various disciplines (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa). The pattern has been announced by NCIMS. According to the recent updates, the NExT for MBBS exam has been delayed till further notice. It will be conducted in CBT (Computer Based Test) mode.

NExT exam is a licentiate exam mandatory for undergraduate medical students to practice in India or to pursue further PG medical or Ayush courses. As per the latest notice, a total of 120 MCQs will be asked and the test duration will be of 180 marks. 

Also, there’s a huge confusion among students if NExT 2025 will replace NEET PG and FMGE exams. However, the NMC has recently clarified that NExT exam replacing NEET PG and FMGE will not be conducted immediately. Mock test are being planned be conducted which will be fully funded by NMC.

NExT 2025 Exam Pattern

Check out the exam pattern for NExT discussed below for various disciplines:

For Ayush Courses (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa):

  • Test mode: The exam will be conducted in computer-based test mode.
  • Time Duration: The duration of the examination is 180 minutes (3 hours). 
  • Exam Language: The paper will be available in different languages – Ayurveda in English & Hindi; Unani in English & Urdu; Siddha in English & Tamil & Sowa-Rigpa in English & Bhoti.
  • Structure of Paper: The exam paper will test the understanding of medical ethics, clinical competency, and ability to deal with medico-legal cases. It includes videos, images, clinical case scenarios, etc.
  • Number of Questions: A total of 120 questions will be asked in the examination.
  • Type of Questions: Multiple choice questions (MCQs) will be asked in the NExT Exam.
  • Marking Scheme: For every correct answer, 4 marks will be given.
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.

For PG Medical Courses (MBBS Graduates):

  • Test Mode: The NExT exam will be held in CBT mode.
  • Duration of the Exam: The duration of the exam for Paper 1 will be 3 hours and for Paper 2 it will be 3 hours 30 min.
  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark will be given for every correct answer. 1/4th mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Types of Questions: MCQs will be asked in the NExT examination for MBBS graduates.

For Ayush Courses:

The NExT syllabus for various Ayush Courses (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa) can be checked on the online website. Candidates can prepare for the exam from NCISM prescribed syllabus for UG courses such as BSMS, BAMS, BSRMS, BUMS.

For PG Medical Courses:

NMC has prescribed the syllabus for the NExT exam. It comprises six subjects that covers clinical, pre and para clinical areas.

NExT Exam Preparation Tips

Below we have shared some of the exam tips for students who will be appearing for the upcoming NExT exam:

  • Familiarising yourself with the NExT exam structure, should be the first and foremost step to start NExT preparation.
  • Review the complete syllabus of the National Exit Test (NExT) and know what kind of topics will be asked during the exam.
  • Create a realistic and balanced study plan according to your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Identify the topics that you are not very familiar with and give them some extra attention.
  • Set daily goals for yourself and track your daily progress.
  • Take NExT mock tests, and after that, solve the questions for which you gave wrong answers.
  • Refer to study materials that are specifically designed for the National Exit Test (NExT).
  • Eat healthy and make sure to give priority to your sleep pattern as well.
  • Indulge yourself in some activities that will refresh your mind while preparing.

By following the above-mentioned tips, students can enhance their preparation for the NExT exam and can increase their chances of success. Also, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is yet to release more information about the NExT Exam Pattern, and after that, we will update it here.
