CAT Exam Instructions & Doubts

The Common Admission Test will be held in 3 sessions in computer-based mode at the respective exam center allocated to the candidates. On the exam day, candidates are required to carry a few documents, follow the dress code, and adhere to the exam day instructions and rules.

Can I take the examination from any computer?No. You must take the exam on the workstation assigned to you at the test centre. The centre is allotted based on the cities you selected during registration. Full details appear on the admit card.
Can I carry rough paper/scribbling pad and pen/pencil to the exam?No. You will be given one scribble pad & a pen at the centre. All rough work must be done only on that pad. Extra pads will not be provided. Writing anywhere else, including on the admit card, counts as unfair means. PwD candidates with blindness or low vision can request one extra scribble pad. Can I take the scribble pad home after the exam?No. Invigilators will collect the scribble pad after the exam ends.
Can I bring a calculator?No. Personal calculators are not allowed. You must use the onscreen calculator available throughout the exam.
Can I carry medicines or restricted items due to medical conditions?Yes, but only with prior approval. You must submit an Authorization Form with documents and an admit card to the CAT Helpdesk. The approval letter must be shown at the centre.
Can I adjust the screen brightness?Yes, but only the invigilator can adjust it. You need to request them during the exam.
What should I do if I face a technical issue during the exam? Will time be compensated?Inform the invigilator immediately. Your system will be locked, and you’ll be shifted to another one. The timer pauses during the shift, so you won’t lose exam time.
Can I take a bio-break during the CAT exam?Bio-breaks are not allowed except for emergencies or medical reasons. You will be re-frisked when re-entering. Time lost will not be compensated. Candidates should avoid breaks unless absolutely needed.

Now, what is the CAT exam dress code? All candidates have to wear simple, loose, non-blinky clothes to take the exam. Candidates should not wear any jewelry, ornaments, accessories, or mendhi. Both female and male candidates can wear a plain solid t-shirt and a trousers with slippers. However, yes, you can also wear jeans.
