Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kottayam was set up on 2nd October 1983 by the Kerala State Legislature. It is a public university which is approved by the University Grants Commission. All the law courses are recognized by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi.

Campus

The University campus is spread over 100 acres of land at Priyadarsini Hills P.O., Kottayam, Kerala. Kottayam Railway Station is the nearest railway station that is located just 13 km away from the university campus. The nearest airport from the campus is Cochin International Airport. The Department of Law campus is situated in Surya kalady Hills, S.H.Mount P.O., Kottayam.

Facilities

There is separate hostel facility for both Men’s and Women’s. The University has a well-stocked library with a wide gathering of books, Indian & foreign Journals, Periodicals, newspapers, magazines, reports, etc. The university conducts regular visits to the Courts, Lawyers Chamber, Prison and other custodial institutions for law students. The University also offers the facilities of health care, seminar & conference hall, canteen, computer labs, classrooms, etc.

Programmes

Mahatma Gandhi University, School of Indian Legal Thought offers five years integrated Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Law (BA LLB), three years Bachelor of Law (LLB), Master of Law (LLM) & Ph.D in Law. There are 60 seats available for LLB programme.

Admission

Students seeking admission into LLB programme, they have to pass their graduation degree from the MGU or any other university recognized equivalent thereto by the Mahatma Gandhi University. Students will get admission into the BA LLB course, if they complete their 10+2 education. Students have to qualify their LLB degree examination for admission into LLM programme. Students have to secure at least 45% marks (40% in the case of reserved category) in the qualifying examination. The admission into these courses will be based on the entrance test organized by the school.
