GATE Previous Year’s Paper
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted on a rotational basis by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and a rotating committee of seven IITs — IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee.
The exam is organised on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Examination for GATE is conducted in an online, computer-based test (CBT) mode.
There are a total of 30 subjects. The exam duration is 3 hours (180 minutes) and includes 65 questions in total — 10 from General Aptitude (GA) and 55 from the subject chosen by the candidate. The paper carries a total of 100 marks and consists of three types of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
A new paper Robotics and Automation has been added in GATE 2027. IIT Madras is conducting authority of GATE 2027 examination on 6, 07, 13, 14, 20 & 21 February 2027. The medium of the question paper will be only in English.
In the year 2026, sectional paper of Energy Science was introduced in the Engineering Science paper. A sample question paper for energy science was also available.
