GATE Previous Year’s Paper
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted on a rotational basis by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and a rotating committee of seven IITs — IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee.
The exam is organized on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Examination for GATE is conducted in an online, computer-based test (CBT) mode.
There are a total of 30 subjects. The exam duration is 3 hours (180 minutes) and includes 65 questions in total — 10 from General Aptitude (GA) and 55 from the subject chosen by the candidate. The paper carries a total of 100 marks and consists of three types of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
For GATE 2026, a new sectional paper on Energy Science is being introduced in the Engineering Science (XE) paper. A sample question paper for energy science (XE-I) is also available. IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 examination on 07, 08, 14, and 15 February 2026. The medium of the question paper will be only in English.
