GATE Exam Update: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has officially released the GATE 2026 two-paper combination details today, 21st August 2025.
In GATE, the primary paper is based on the candidate’s undergraduate subject, while the secondary paper is from a related field. The combination list for the GATE 2026 examination is available at gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
Candidates must ensure they select the correct combination of papers at the time of registration. As per the GATE schedule, the exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, and candidates will get question papers based on the subjects they selected.

The GATE 2026 registration will begin on 25th August 2025. The last day to apply for the regular online registration/application process (Without Late Fee) is 25th September, and for the extended online registration/application process (With Late Fee) is 06th October 2025.
According to the officials, the GATE exam will be conducted in computer-based mode, and the question paper will be in English only. Candidates choosing to appear for two papers must select a primary paper and a second paper from the allowed combinations listed by the authority.
Any other combinations are not allowed during the regular or extended registration periods. The authority may add more two-paper combinations later, based on infrastructure and scheduling, and will announce these updates on the GATE 2026 website.
The exam centre for the second paper might be different from the first one, but it will be in the same city. GATE 2026 will not be responsible for any issues arising from this arrangement. If any paper combinations are removed later due to unforeseen reasons, the fee for the second paper will be refunded to the candidates.
