NEET 2017 Eligibility Criteria

NEET (National Eligiblity cum Entrance Test) is a national level entrance examination for MBBS & BDS aspirants. This examination will be administrated by the CBSE Board for providing admissions in various government & private colleges of the country. The eligibility criteria for NEET 2017 is as following:

NEET 2017 Eligibility Criteria – Age cap of 25 Years Removed

newiconAs per the decision of Supreme Court, age bar of 25 years has removed in NEET 2017. Candidates having age above 25 years are now eligible to apply. Click Here to check notice.

As per the latest news, all the Indian citizen candidates must have Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI to apply for NEET 2017 examination. Click Here to view more details.

Candidates may attempt NEET exam only 3 times until cross the maximum age limit as 25 years for general and 30 years for reserved categories. NEET 2017 will be counted as 1 Attempt for all the candidates.

We have mentioned NEET 2017 eligibility as per state and All India basis:

General Eligibility

  • Aadhaar card is mandatory to apply for NEET 2017 examination.
  • Candidates may attempt the exam only 3 times. NEET 2017 will be counted as 1 Attempt for all the candidates.
  • The candidates must have passed the 10+2 or its equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology with English.
  • The minimum percentage for general category is 50%, for SC/ST/OBC is 40%, for general PH is 45% and for SC/ST/OBC handicapped is 40%.
  • The candidates appearing for the qualifying exam can also apply. They must have to show the passing certificates complying with the percentage criteria at the time of first round of counselling.
  • Marks obtained in math shall not be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

Eligibility for 85% State Quota Seats

All the states participating in the NEET 2017 will fill their 85% seats of MBBS/BDS  though state counselling, while the remaining 15% of the seats will be filled through All India centralized counselling. The eligibility for the 85% quota seats of the states are mentioned below:

  • Candidates must have completed/appearing his/her 10th and 12th from the state.
  • Candidate must possess a valid domicile of the state.
  • Candidate should posses a residency proof of the state.

Eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats

  • The candidate must be the citizen of India or Overseas citizen.
  • The candidates must have completed the age of 17 years as on or before 31st December of the year of Admission.
  • The criteria of upper age limit of 25 years has now removed.
  • The candidates belong to J&K, AP and Telangana are eligible to appear the exam only for the admission to the AFMC, Pune on the basis of self declaration.

Eligibility for Seats in Participating Bodies

There are many other institutes/universities that are participating in the NEET 2017, some of them include Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jamia Hamdard University, University of Delhi.

  • The OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) may also appear the exam subject to the rules of government of India.
  • The upper age limit shall be considered as per the rules of states/ universities/ institutions for those candidates, seeking admission under the control of participating Institutions/ Universities/ States.
