All the candidates applying for JEE Main 2026 are allowed to select up to four exam cities. But these city choices must be from the state mentioned in your Present Address or Permanent Address. So you cannot choose exam centres from any random state.
NTA will try to allot candidates to their first preferred city. If that’s not possible, they’ll go with your second, third, or fourth option. However:
- If very few students choose a particular city, NTA may merge or remove that city as a center.
- In that case, they can allot you a different city than what you selected.
- Once NTA assigns your exam city/centre, you cannot request a change.
- The allocation is done automatically by the system (no manual influence).
All the JEE Main 2026 candidates are advised to select their exam center very carefully and correctly. The final allotment of the candidate’s exam center will be released through the JEE Main exam cit slip.
NTA JEE Main 2026 session 1 registration begins on 31st October 2025, and the last date to apply is 27th November 2025. The session 1 exam will take place between 21 January 2026 to 30 January 2026, and session 2 between 2 April 2026 and 9 April 2026.
