The Class 10th and Class 12th board exams are called by different names in various states and boards, which can sometimes confuse students. The most common terms are Class 10th, also known as Secondary Examination, and Class 12th, commonly known as Senior Secondary Examination.

CBSE
The CBSE board examination is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. It the one of the largest national boards that holds class 10 and 12 examinations across India and abroad. Around 24+ lakh students sit for the Class 10th board exam, and 17+ lakh students appear for the exam.
CBSE board class 12th exams will be held from 17th February to 9th April 2026, and class 10th board exam from 17th February to 9th March (Phase 1) and 15th May 2026 to 1st June 2026 (Phase 2).

ICSE/ISC
The ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) exams are condcuted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations. The CISCE exam timetable 2026 will be released together for 10th & 12th classes on the board’s official website.
It is expected that the CISCE ISC board exam will be held from the 3rd week of February to the 01st week of April, and CISCE ICSE 10th exam Date 2026 from the 3rd week of February to the 04th week of March 2026.
Jharkhand
The Jharkhand board exams are condcuted by the Jharkhand Academic Council for secondary and senior secondary levels in the state. Every year, more than 04 lakh students appear for the Jharkhand class 10th board exam and 3 lakh+ for the Jharkhand class 12th board exam.
Last year, the JAC class 10th board exam was conducted from 11th February to 8th March 2025, and class 12th from 11th February to 3rd March 2025. For this year, the exam will be held in these months.

Uttarakhand
The examination is conducted by UBSE for Class 10 and 12 students across the state. Based in Ramnagar, Nainital, UBSE is the main authority for state-level exams. It not only conducts board exams but also designs the syllabus and prescribes textbooks.
UBSE regional office was set up on 9 February 1996, at Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, and is now affiliated with almost 10,000 schools.

Kerala
The Kerala Board of Public Examinations (KBPE), also known as Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan, was established in 1956. It conducts the state board exams for Class 10 and Class 12 students in Kerala. The Class 10 exam is called the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), while Class 12 is known as the Second Year Higher Secondary exam.
School education in Kerala is overseen by two main boards: the Kerala State Education Board (KSEB), which conducts the SSLC exams, and the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE), which conducts the Plus Two exams for Classes 11 and 12 each year.

Karnataka
The examination is conducted by KSEEB for SSLC (10th) and 2nd PUC (12th). It is one of the oldest education boards in India, established in 1966. The board manages examinations for a huge number of students and also revises the curriculum at regular intervals.
The Karnataka class 10th board exam will be held from 18th March to 1st April 2026 (Exam 1) and from 18th May to 25th May 2026 (Exam 2), and the class 12th board exam will take place from 28th February to 17th March 2026 (Exam 1) and from 25th April to 9th May 2026 for Exam 2.

Madhya Pradesh
The MP Board examination is conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE). The MP Board was established as per the Madhya Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Adhiniyam in 1965.
Madhya Pradesh class 10th board exams will be conducted from 11th February to 2nd March 2026, and class 12th board exams from 7th February to 3rd March 2026.

Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu State Board, also called the State Board School Examinations, conducts both Secondary (Class 10) and Higher Secondary (Class 12) exams. The TN board is the Governmental Board of School Education and was founded in 1911.
Last year, the TN board class 12th exam was conducted from 3rd to 25th March 2025, and the TN board class 10th exam from 28th March to 15th April 2025.

Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), also known as the Board of High School and Intermediate Education Uttar Pradesh (BHSIEUP), is the main education board governing the state of Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1921 under the United Provinces Legislative Council Act, the board conducted its first public examination in 1923.
UPMSP is responsible for conducting the High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) examinations every year. The board is headquartered in Prayagraj and operates through three regional offices located in Meerut (est. 1973), Varanasi (est. 1978), and Bareilly (est. 1981).

Maharashtra
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), also known as the Maharashtra Board or the State Board of Maharashtra, conducts HSC (12th) and SSC (10th) exams in the state.
On 1st January 1966, the MSBSHSE was established. Last year, the Maharashtra class 10th board exams were held from 21st February to 17th March 2025, and class 12th board exams were conducted from 11th February to 11th March 2025.

Rajasthan
The RBSE, also known as BSER( Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan), was established in the year 1957 and is constituted under the Rajasthan Secondary Education Act 1957(Act No. 42 of 1957). The headquarters of the board is in Ajmer.
Rajasthan Board Class 12th & 10th examinations will be held from March 2026 to April 2026. RBSE conducts the board examination from 8:30 AM to 11:45 AM.

Goa
The Goa board exams are conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE). The 10th class is known as SSC (Secondary School Certificate), and the 12th class is known as HSSC (Higher Secondary School Certificate).
GBSHSE usually conducts the board exams for SSC and HSSC in the month of March. The examination will be held in a single morning shift.

West Bengal
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) was established in 1975 and is in charge of Class 11 and Class 12 in the state. Whereas in 1951, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) was established and is responsible for conducting 10 board examination.
The WB Madhyamik refers to class 12th, and WB HS refers to class 12th. The West Bengal Class 10th board exam 2026 was from 2nd to 12th February 2026, and the West Bengal Class 12th board exam 2026 will be held in March.

Punjab
The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is responsible for conducting the Punjab Board examination. PSEB was formed on 25 November 1969. Class 10 is also called Matriculation, and Class 12 is called Senior Secondary in the state.
Punjab board exam for class 10th 2025 was held from 10th March to 4th April 2025, and class 12th from 19th February to 4th April 2025. Exams are held in a single shift.

Andhra Pradesh
The main board in the state of Andhra Pradesh is the Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary Education or the Directorate of Government Examinations. The Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (BSEAP), also known as the AP SSC Board, conducts the Class 10 board exam, and the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) conducts the Andhra Intermediate or Class 12 exams.
The Andhra Pradesh Intermediate, also known as class 12th, board exam 2026 datesheet has been released. Examination will be held from 24th February to 23rd March 2026. Anytime soon, the dates for the AP SSC, also known as class 10th, will be announced.

Telangana
The Telangana Class 10th board exam, also known as the Secondary School Certificate (SSC), is held by the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), under the Board of Secondary Education, Telangana (BSE Telangana), and the Telangana Class 12 (Intermediate) exams are conducted by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE).
Telangana SSC board exams are held in one shift, and Telangana Intermediate board exams are held in two shifts. Last year, the class 10th board exam was from 21st March to 4th April 2025, and the class 12th board exam was from 6th to 25th March 2025.
Haryana
The Board of School Education, Haryana (BSEH) or the HBSE conducts the Class 10 (matric) and Class 12 (senior secondary) exams. As per the research, around 4 lakh students appear for the HBSE Secondary School Examination (SSE), also known as the class 10 exam, and around 2.5 lakh candidates appear for the HBSE Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), i.e,. Class 12 exams.
Last year, the Haryana 10th board exam 2025 was from 28th February 2025 to 19th March 2025, and the Haryana 12th board exam 2025 was from 27th February to 29th March 2025.

Meghalaya
Established in 1973, the Meghalaya Board of School Education, also known as MBOSE, handles all the academics and conducts for Meghalaya SSLC (Class 10) and Meghalaya HSSLC (Class 12) board examinations.
The Meghalaya HSSLC (Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate) board exam last year was from 18th February to 19th March 2025, and the Meghalaya SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) board exam was from 18th February to 19th March 2025.

Chhattisgarh
The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education, also known as CGBSE / CG Board, was established on 01st November 2000. The main role of the Chhattisgarh Board is to conduct the class 10th and class 12th examinations in the state.
In the state, the high school exams (Class 10) and higher secondary exams (Class 12) board exams are held in the month of March. Last year, the CG Board 10th exam 2025 was from 3rd to 24th March 2025, and the CG Board 12th exam was from 1st to 28th March 2025.

Himachal Pradesh
Founded in 1969, the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, also known as HPBOSE, is responsible for conducting the HP Board examination for classes 10th and 12th every year. According to research, the pass percentage of candidates in the Himachal Pradesh Board examination has been improving year after year.
However, in 2019 and 2020, there was a slight dip in the pass percentage, but it improved again in the following years. The Himachal Pradesh Board exams for class 10th and class 12th are conducted in the month of March.

Tripura
The Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) was established in 1973 and came into operation on January 1, 1976. Usually, the Tripura board exam for class 10th and class 12th starts in March and ends in April.
TBSE board exams are conducted in a single shift. Details regarding the exam shift, time are announced through the datesheet. In the year 2025, Tripura Madhyamik exams were from 25th February to 18th March 2025, and Tripura 12th board exams were from 24th February to 22nd March 2025.

Bihar
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) serves as the state’s main education authority. Established to oversee and regulate school education in Bihar, the board conducts the annual Class 10 (Matric) and Class 12 (Intermediate) examinations for students enrolled in its affiliated schools across the state.
Last year, the BSEB class 10th exams were from 17th to 25th February 2025, and the BSEB class 12th board exams were from 1st to 15th February 2025.

Gujarat
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) is the main education board in the state of Gujarat. It oversees school education and conducts the Class 10 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam and the Class 12 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam every year for all schools affiliated with the board across the state.

Assam
Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), formed on June 1, 1984, conducts the Assam Class 12 (HS) Higher Secondary exams. Whereas the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), formed on January 29, 1962, conducts Class 10 (HSLC) High School Leaving Certificate exams.
Last year, Assam HSLC 2025 exams were held from 15th February to 3rd March 2025, and Assam HS 2025 exams from 15th February to 3rd March 2025.

Odisha
The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha (BSE), established on November 3, 1994, conducts the Odisha Class 10 (HSC) High School Certificate examinations every year. Whereas the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha (CHSE), formed in 1982, is responsible for conducting the Class 12 (Plus Two) examinations across the state.
Last year, the Odisha HSC 2025 exams were held from February 20 to March 4, 2025, while the Odisha CHSE 2025 exams took place from February 16 to March 20, 2025.

Jammu & Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education, JKBOSE, was established on 28th August 1975. Is responsible for conducting the board classes for the 10th and 12th. JKBOSE conducts the board examination for both 10th and 12th classes in two divisions, which are the Jammu division and the Kashmir division.
Examination for both divisions is generally condcuted in the months of February and March. To pass the JKBOSE board exam, Class 10th students must score at least 33% in both practical and theory exams, and Class 12th students must score 33% in General English and 36% in each of the four elective subjects.
The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) conducts both the Class 10 (HSLC) High School Leaving Certificate and Class 12 (HSSLC) Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations. Both the theory and practical exams for Mizoram board classes 12th and 10th are condcuted in a single morning shift.
Last year, the MBSE HSLC was from 19th February to 13th March 2025, and the MBSE HSSLC board exams were from 14th February 2025 to 17th March 2025.

Manipur
The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), conducts the Class 12 (HSE) Higher Secondary examinations for Science, Commerce, and Arts streams, and the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) conducts the Class 10 (HSLC) High School Leaving Certificate examinations.
The Manipur Class 12th 2025 board exams were condcuted from 17th February to 26th March 2025, and the Manipur Class 10th board exams from March 15, 2025, to April 3, 2025, for the previous year.

Nagaland
Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) is the board that conducts the Class 12 and Class 10 respectively. The Nagalanad class 10th board exam is known as HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate), and the Nagalanad class 10th board exam is known as HSSLC (Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate) exam.
The board examination for both class 12th and class 10th is held from 09:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Last year, the NBSE HSLC 2025 exam was from 12th to 24th February 2025, and the NBSE HSSLC exams were from 11th February to 7th March 2025.
